Kim Eun-joong (45), who was rumored to have broken up with Suwon FC in the K League 1 after a year of taking office, denied all of the demands for excessive salary increases raised by some. The club wanted to renew the contract with the coaches they had been accompanying for a stable companion, but did not bring up any financial issues such as salary.
"We have never had a fight with an annual salary. I have never asked for twice the annual salary that your team is talking about," Kim Eun-joong told the Dong-A Ilbo on the phone on Wednesday. "However, I just wanted to extend the contract by one more year because I wanted to lead the team more stably."
Coach Kim said, "Even though we've made enough performance this year, the club didn't ask for it (about extending the contract), so the agent only asked for it first. I've never asked too much for something while leading the team for a year," adding, "I've been frustrated and tired, so I haven't mentioned it myself, but I'm just sad that the club is in an atmosphere where they set it off first and then settle it."
Coach Kim Eun-joong said, "We still have one year left to sign a contract with Suwon FC. If this problem is resolved well, of course, it will remain under the contract," but added, "However, in order to do so, the coaches have to renew their contracts, but the team has not given it to us even though we requested the coaches to renew their contracts." Unlike coach Kim, who is due next year, the contracts of other coaches who helped coach Kim this season expire at the end of this year, but the club has not responded to the request for renewal of contracts for the coaches.
Regarding some doubts about the club's excessive demands on Suwon FC clubs after negotiating with other clubs in advance, head coach Kim said, "I already belong to this team (Suwon FC) and I can't go because I have a contract. I told the club exactly that it's what I can do at the moment," adding, "It's a pity to mention it as if I'm already receiving an offer and doing it on purpose."
However, the club has some differences in opinion. "We listened to Kim Eun-joong's proposal regarding contract extension and salary increase (in advance). At the moment, the manager's requirements are burdensome to us. Now, we have to make another proposal, but when we met with our representative on Wednesday last week, we were in no mood to talk. We kept saying that we wanted to take a break, so we asked him to change his mind first and then tell us again," said Choi Soon-ho, head of Suwon FC.
"We made a proposal to renew the contract with the coach, if not 100 percent, close to what the coach wants," he said. "The team naturally wants to accompany us. However, since it is a matter related to the team's budget, it is often difficult to follow the coach's idea. It is not that the team does not comply with the coach's request, but that there is a regret." Suwon FC and Kim Eun-joong will start negotiations again on the 19th at the earliest. 먹튀검증
Meanwhile, Suwon FC supporters Real Crew issued a statement saying, "I support manager Kim Eun-joong and strongly criticize the club's current administration," adding, "I have fully supported the team and the manager under any circumstances of the club, and I express deep concern and anger over various rumors that they are neglecting the best-performing manager ever." Fans are reportedly expressing their dissatisfaction by sending a condolence flower to the club's office while demanding a meeting with the club.
Ahead of the 2024 season, Kim Eun-joong was appointed as the fifth head coach of Suwon FC. Under Kim, Suwon FC not only advanced to the Final A (top split) with 15 wins, eight draws and 15 losses (53 points), but also achieved the highest number of wins (15 wins) and the highest ranking tie (5th) in the K League 1. The achievements were made despite various unfavorable factors such as transfer of key players such as Lee Seung-woo (Jeonbuk Hyundai) and Kwon Kyung-won (Korpakan) last summer and termination of Son Joon-ho's contract. Suwon FC was a team that managed to remain in the K League 1 ranking 11th in the season right before Kim took office.
